What is FlytWERX?

FlytWERX is a data-backed flight training platform for reviewing maneuver performance, debriefing flights, and tracking pilot progress over time.

The app uses supported simulator and aircraft telemetry to help pilots and instructors review flight paths, maneuver attempts, performance trends, and areas for improvement. FlytWERX can support a quick debrief during the lesson, when safe and appropriate, as well as a more detailed review after landing. Instead of relying only on memory or general impressions, students and instructors can begin the debrief with objective information about what happened during the flight.

Why was FlytWERX created?

FlytWERX was created because too much valuable training information is lost after a flight. A flight lesson can include multiple maneuvers, corrections, decisions, and changes in aircraft performance. Once the airplane is parked, students and instructors often have to reconstruct those moments from memory, handwritten notes, or broad impressions.

Preserving more of the training story

It gives students clearer evidence of their performance, helps instructors conduct more focused debriefs, and gives flight schools greater visibility into student progress and training activity.

The idea is simple: the sooner a pilot understands what happened, the sooner that pilot can make the right correction.

The training method

How does FlytWERX work?

FlytWERX connects supported flight data with structured maneuver review and progress tracking. The result is a more focused debrief and a clearer plan for the next training session.

Select the maneuver

Choose the maneuver or training activity you are practicing, including takeoffs, landings, turns, slow flight, stalls, and other supported maneuvers.

Fly in sim or aircraft

Practice using a supported data source, such as Microsoft Flight Simulator, Stratus, or available iPhone and iPad telemetry.

Review the attempt

FlytWERX organizes available flight data so the student and instructor can review the flight path, maneuver performance, deviations, and other measurable indicators.

See where the maneuver was strongest, where performance drifted, and what should receive attention during the next attempt.

What flight data does FlytWERX use?

FlytWERX reviews the flight information available from the connected telemetry source. Depending on the maneuver, device, and available data, that may include key metrics like flight path, aircraft position, altitude, heading, airspeed, and bank angle.

Not every data source provides every measurement. FlytWERX uses the available information to help place the maneuver in context and support a more informed training conversation. The goal is not to reduce a pilot's performance to one number. The goal is to make performance easier to see, understand, compare, and improve.

Human element

Does FlytWERX replace a flight instructor?

No. FlytWERX does not replace a certified flight instructor, instructor judgment, or formal flight training. A CFI must consider factors that flight telemetry alone cannot fully evaluate, including situational awareness, aircraft configuration, checklist use, traffic, weather, decision-making, control technique, risk management, and the overall safety of the operation.

FlytWERX provides another source of evidence. The platform helps show the data. The instructor decides what it means within the full context of the flight.

The instructor still actively:
Teaches the maneuver and handles hands-on coaching
Observes the student's lookout and cockpit management
Interprets the complete training situation (airspace, traffic)
Evaluates performance with expert pilot intuition
Determines the appropriate correction for safety
Makes endorsement and checkride readiness decisions
About Brian Chaney

Built by aviation experience, designed for real progress

Brian's connection to aviation began with his first flight at 12 years old. That experience started a lifelong interest in flying and eventually led to a career working across aircraft maintenance, logistics, acquisition, information systems, program management, and advanced aviation technology.

During his Air Force career, Brian led initiatives supporting Maintenance Operations Center command-and-control capabilities. He later served as Deputy Chief Information Officer for the Air Force Research Laboratory's Air Vehicles organization.

His experience as both an aviation technology leader and a pilot shaped the idea behind FlytWERX. Brian saw that students, instructors, and flight schools were generating valuable information during every training flight, but much of that information disappeared once the flight ended.
