A lot happens during a flight lesson. Once the aircraft is parked, students and instructors may have to reconstruct individual maneuvers from memory, handwritten notes, and general impressions.
FlytWERX was created to give both sides clearer evidence to work from.
The platform helps review flight paths, maneuver performance, altitude, heading, airspeed, bank, pitch, vertical speed, and other available flight data. Instead of replacing the instructor’s judgment, FlytWERX gives instructors and students a more complete starting point for the debrief.
FlytWERX is being developed around the parts of flight performance that can be observed and measured.
Depending on the maneuver and available telemetry, that may include altitude control, airspeed control, heading accuracy, bank stability, flight-path consistency, touchdown location, rollout accuracy, and other performance indicators.
The goal is not to reduce flying to a single score. It is to make performance easier to understand, compare, and improve over time.
FlytWERX was founded by Brian Chaney, an Air Force veteran, aviation technology leader, entrepreneur, and instrument-rated pilot with extensive experience across aircraft maintenance, logistics, acquisition, information systems, and flight operations.
Brian’s connection to aviation began when he was 12 years old and took his first flight. From that moment, he dreamed of becoming a pilot. That early experience grew into a career spent working around aircraft, aviation technology, and the systems that keep complex flight operations moving safely and effectively.
During his Air Force career, Brian led initiatives supporting Maintenance Operations Center command-and-control capabilities and served as Deputy Chief Information Officer for the Air Force Research Laboratory’s Air Vehicles organization. There, he worked at the intersection of advanced aircraft research, technology integration, program management, logistics, maintenance, and operational execution.
That experience, combined with his own journey as a pilot, shaped the idea behind FlytWERX.
Brian saw that valuable training information was routinely lost after a flight. Students were often left relying on memory, instructors spent significant time reconstructing what happened, and flight schools had limited objective data for identifying performance trends.
FlytWERX was created to close that gap by turning flight and simulator data into practical training insight. It helps pilots better understand their performance, enables more focused instructor debriefs, and gives flight schools greater visibility into student progress and training operations.
For Brian, FlytWERX is more than an aviation technology company. It is the continuation of a dream that began on his first flight at 12 years old: to fly, to understand aviation more deeply, and to help the next generation of pilots become safer, more capable aviators.
